Importance of Certifications
Coaches are the primary drivers of a boxing program. They mentor, promote healthy attitudes towards fitness, and develop confidence & responsibility in their athletes.
In all competition in Alberta, boxers must have a Registered and Certified boxing coach in their corner.
- Registered means the coach has paid their current year membership with Boxing Canada and has a Criminal Record-Vulnerable Sector check that is within 5 years
- Certified means the coach has completed all requirements from Boxing Canada, including their evaluation and NCCP courses. More information on all the requirements is listed below.
The following document shows the coaches who have met all of the certification and registration requirements and are eligible to corner athletes.
Eligible Coaches (Updated November 15th 2024)
*There will be consequences for anyone that corners a boxer who is not on the Eligible Coaches list. This list is enforced at all provincial tournaments, and it is the responsibility of sanction holders to ensure proper coaches are working corners at their events.

Coach Registration
Coaches must register with Boxing Alberta. In addition to the registration paperwork and the registration fee of $120, coaches require a current (less than 5 years) Criminal Record Check with the Vulnerable Sector check from their local police authority. Boxing Alberta considers these valid for 5 years from date of completion. To apply for your CR-VS check you will need a letter from Boxing Alberta. Please reach out to Scott at the office asking for your volunteer letter.
The registration form is available in our Documents section. Registered coaches receive membership cards from Boxing Canada that they should have with them at all competitions
Coach Certification
There are three levels of coaching currently offered by Boxing Canada (see below). To be eligible to corner an athlete in Alberta, a coach must be at minimum Instructor of Beginner Certified.
If you have started the certification process but are missing some components, your status will be ‘trained’. This level is not sufficient to corner athletes as you must be fully ‘certified’. This means you would need to complete and pass the Boxing Canada Evaluation
All levels of coaching require courses from the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP). Coaches will need to create an account to register and access these courses.
To do this, go to coach.ca
Click ‘the locker’ (top righthand corner)
