Officiating can be a rewarding and exciting way to be involved with the sport of boxing! All of our officials (referee’s and judges) are volunteers who are passionate about the sport. We encourage anyone (fans, parents, coaches, and retired athletes) to attend a coaching clinic so that you can help facilitate boxing opportunities for our athletes.

To become an level 1 official (judge or timekeeper), the following tasks must be complete:

  • Complete the Abuse Free Sports Declaration
  • Have a current criminal record with vulnerable sector check (CR-VS)
  • Be a current member of Boxing Canada ($100 registration fee)
  • Attend a Level 1 Officiating Course (one day course with evening practice at a live boxing event)

Additional levels can be obtained, each with increasing responsibilities or higher level of competitions. Alberta is proud to say that we have had a number of officials work at the Olympic Games as well as the Olympic Qualifiers over the years. This is the highest level of our sport, and we are so proud of our Alberta representatives who were there!

For more information on the training pathway for higher level of officiating (Provincial, National, and International), please see the Boxing Canada website here.

    Diversity Initiative

Boxing Alberta recognizes the importance of diversity and inclusion of all people in all levels of our sport, including athletes, coaches, and officials. We have created a new scholarship program to allow people of visible minorities take our officiating course at no cost. There are 5 diversity scholarships available for the year, simply fill out our online form to apply. We hope to break down barriers in our sport and create a diverse and inclusive working environment for all our members
